Nixon Joseph joined the State Bank of India (SBI) on 1 October 1985 as a Probationary Officer. His early assignments included branch management responsibilities in the North-Eastern states of India, particularly Mizoram, where he gained valuable operational experience in retail banking, customer relationship management and rural banking services.

Between 1990 and 1992, he served as Manager (Operations) at Bahrain India International Exchange Company in Manama, Bahrain, where he managed foreign exchange operations, regulatory compliance and multicultural workforce management while ensuring business profitability.

Following his return to India, Joseph held several progressively senior positions including Deputy Manager, Planning Department at the Local Head Office in Guwahati; Branch Manager at Alwaye; Manager and Chief Manager at Credit Appraisal Cells in Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram; and Chief Manager of the Commercial Branch at Ernakulam. These assignments strengthened his expertise in corporate credit, risk assessment, commercial banking, relationship management and business development.

In 2004, he was appointed Assistant General Manager in the Credit Policy and Procedures Department at SBI Corporate Centre, Mumbai. During this tenure, he played a pioneering role in developing corporate credit policies, loan appraisal systems and risk management frameworks for India's largest public sector bank.

One of his most notable contributions during this period was his leadership in formulating the Green Banking Policy and the Carbon Credit Policy of the State Bank of India. Apart from his professional commitments, Nixon Joseph has a keen interest in literature, public speaking, debating, mentoring, long-distance running and leadership development.

During his stay in Japan, he served as President of the Sakura Toastmasters Club and later as President of the Tokyo International Debating Society, promoting communication, leadership and public speaking skills among professionals from diverse nationalities.

He has also served as editor of the State Bank of India's house magazine, reflecting his continued interest in writing, communication and knowledge sharing.
